Squirdle

Players in Squirdle begin by guessing a Pokémon name. The game generates a series of clues to assist players in determining the daily Pokémon. It'll tell them if it's the correct generation and type, with a green square indicating a valid estimate. It also indicates whether the predicted monster is taller or heavier than the actual one.

The Wordle clone pays tribute to classic Pokémon enthusiasts who abandoned the series after the first generation. Fireblend includes a generation one-only option that featured only Pokémon names from Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow. It's ideal for people who don't want to memorize all 898 creatures (and counting).

This is...very difficult unless you have an encyclopedic knowledge of Pokémon, however there is also a Gen 1 only version if that's all you remember, which makes things a lot easier with only 150 potential answers. Even that version is challenging. Here's my attempt at guessing Parasect.

How to play

If Squirtle is the right generation but the wrong Pokémon, the generation box turns green. Up and down arrows indicate a high or low guess in the height and weight boxes. Elemental Types have rules.

  • Green denotes possession.
  • Yellow means you guessed Water/Flying.
  • Red means neither.

The list of nearly 900 Pokémon is vast. Without Pokémon knowledge, this is difficult. Fortunately, Gen 1 fans can play Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow in Gen 1 Only mode.
